Conferences & Corporate Events

Sandra from Oxford Tour Guides is an experienced conference organiser having spent many years in senior management in a large complex organisation. We can work with you to plan something different and interesting to offer your delegates.

Here are some examples of events we have helped with recently

A group of 250 delegates at a medical conference in the City centre finished their lectures at 5.30. 14 guides from Oxford Tour Guides then took them on a walking tour showing them the main sights of the University and the City.

We ended the tour at the college which was the venue for their conference banquet. They would have had to walk to the venue anyway but we made it more interesting and the tours were tailored to a science and medicine theme about all the notable men and women who had lived and studied in Oxford and the many significant events and breakthroughs in medical research over the centuries.

A great time was had by all and we got them there in time for the pre-dinner drinks!

Some visiting academics were staying in one of the Oxford Colleges and they had some free time one afternoon. So we worked in advance with the conference organiser to build in some options for different specialist tours for them to choose and book on to. These included :

  • Architecture both ancient and modern
  • Science and medicine
  • General history of the City and University
  • Literature including CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien

We were able to visit inside a college and even managed to see inside some places not normally open to visitors having gained special permission. Delegates were delighted and it was a nice break from the intensity of the conference. The cost of the tours was built in to the overall cost of the conference.

A scientific summer school comes every year to Oxford for two weeks with delegates visiting from all over the world. They have Sunday free between the weeks. We worked with the conference organiser and offered them a choice of:

A walking tour of Oxford with a scientific theme ending at a certain famous pub nestling in to the old City Wall, then some went punting in the afternoon

A visit to Blenheim Palace with the options of having a guided tour round the state rooms or taking the audio-guide at their own leisure.

A trip to London where a guide met them and showed them the main sights around the Westminster area followed by free time for shopping or more sightseeing.

Delegates were asked to sign up in advance and pay extra for the option they chose.
