Green & Blue Badge Tour Guides in Oxford

General Tours

Oxford Tour Guides would love to show you round on a walking tour and discover Oxford’s glorious architecture. With many of the best qualified guides in Oxford we can provide the perfect guide for you and your group.

The Best Way To Discover Oxford

Oxford Tour Guides specialise in private or group tours with a guide exclusively for you, on a date and time to suit. The most popular tour is the general tour lasting either 90 minutes or 2 hours.

We will show you the main sights of the University and City including Radcliffe Square, the Sheldonian Theatre, The Bridge of Sighs, the Bodleian library, the Divinity School, the University Church and you will visit a college (subject to availability).

It covers many stories and traditions. For example find out why there is a nude man on the top of a building in Broad Street? Or why is Christ Church time always 5 minutes late? When did women first get their degrees at Oxford?

We will also help you plan the rest of your visit and suggest other places to see or restaurants and pubs of interest.

Once the tour details and guide fee are confirmed and the guide is booked, you will receive an invoice. We don’t ask for a deposit unless it is a long time in advance of the tour and this will be £40 per guide.

Full payment is due 2 weeks in advance of the tour wherever possible unless it is booked at short notice, in which case payment is due immediately.

Your tour is a personalized one and depends on the size of the group and the length of the tour which usually lasts 90 minutes or two hours. We can give you a price when we discuss your requirements with you.

Generally this will be from £120 upwards.

Group sizes can vary from a small family and friends group to corporate, conferences, schools or larger groups. Generally the maximum number in a group per guide is 19/20. We limit the numbers because we feel that it is important that you can see and hear the guide but also to take into account of health and safety, as Oxford has a number of narrow streets.

We'll Tailor Your Tour To Your Interests

Please do contact Sandra for a discussion about planning your visit. We can arrange tours of any length of time whether it is an hour or up to a whole day. To get the most out of your visit if time is short, we think a 2 hour or 90 minute tour is good.

We will meet you at a central meeting point that suits you but generally the Martyrs Memorial is easy to find or the junction of Catte Street and Broad street (see maps). Come prepared for the weather and wear comfortable footwear.  The tour will involve about 1.5 miles of walking mainly on the flat but sometimes requires steps up into colleges or other buildings.

Please advise us in advance if there are wheelchair users so we can plan accordingly – not all buildings are easily accessible.

Our Tour Group Sizes

Group sizes can vary from a small family and friends group to corporate, conferences, schools or larger groups. Generally the maximum number in a group per guide is 19/20. We limit the numbers because we feel that it is important that you can see and hear the guide but also to take account of Health and Safety as Oxford’s streets are busy and narrow.

Please note that colleges limit the numbers they will admit and 14 is an ideal size. For larger groups more guides can be provided.

Access To Colleges

The Oxford Colleges and University buildings are all fully operational institutions and whilst they welcome visitors, we have to respect their opening arrangements. There are some days in the year when there is limited access due to university ceremonies or open days or other events taking place.

We will do what we can to take visitors into a college on the tour but it may not always be possible but even if no college is available you will still have a great tour. Generally there are more colleges open in the afternoons than in the mornings. We recommend also going in to the historic 15th century Divinity School on the general tour and there is a small charge for entry.

Cost Of General Tours
